1997 Cobalt 22T Details
The 1997 Cobalt 22 Tradition is from an era when Cobalt built seriously substantial runabouts, and this one combines that classic construction with the kind of big-block power that makes an older performance bowrider fun to own.
Power comes from a Volvo Penta 7.4L V8 paired with a DuoProp sterndrive and showing 636 hours. The big-block provides plenty of low-end torque, while the counter-rotating DuoProp setup helps put that power to the water with strong acceleration, good low-speed control and confident handling. Captain’s Call selectable exhaust lets you enjoy the sound of the 7.4L when you want it and quiet things down when you don’t.
The 22 Tradition is a much more substantial boat than its 22-foot length might suggest. It measures 8 feet 6 inches wide, weighs approximately 4,000 pounds dry and carries a 20-degree deadrise. That combination gives the boat the heavier, more planted ride that helped establish Cobalt’s reputation for building premium runabouts.
The open-bow layout provides plenty of usable seating for cruising, swimming and watersports, while the traditional Cobalt cockpit gives the boat a classic upscale feel that has aged well. Other equipment includes a bimini top, docking lights, battery switch and tandem-axle trailer.
Highlights include the Volvo Penta 7.4L V8, DuoProp sterndrive, Captain’s Call exhaust, 636 hours, open-bow seating, deep-V fiberglass hull and tandem-axle trailer.
This is not being represented as a restored or pristine collector boat. It is a usable 1997 Cobalt that shows cosmetic wear, age-related imperfections and areas a future owner may choose to improve. It still offers a lot of boat for someone looking for an affordable way into a heavy, big-block Cobalt without paying for a fully restored example.
Offered on consignment. Tandem-axle trailer included. Boat and trailer are being sold as-is and should be inspected accordingly. No trades accepted.
