These three types of tow boats are related but built around different priorities.

• A wake surf boat is designed to produce a large, clean wave behind the hull that a surfer can ride without a rope. This is achieved through ballast systems and hull shaping that deliberately push water to one side.
• A wake boat, or wakeboard boat, is optimized for a tall, steep wake ideal for aerial wakeboard tricks, and typically uses a similar ballast system.
• A ski boat prioritizes a flat, clean wake that does not interfere with the skier’s line, with a narrower hull and less ballast.

We wish, but our community has decided that Surf Boats are only allowed on the lake by the current owners and no new Surf BOats are allowed.

Most modern wake surf boats come with built-in ballast tanks that fill with water to add weight to the hull and shape the wake. The amount of ballast needed varies by boat size and hull design, but many surf boats carry anywhere from 1,000 to 3,000 or more pounds of ballast capacity.
