All three are tow boats, but each is built around a different priority on the water.

A wake surf boat is designed to generate a large, sustained wave that a rider can surf without holding a rope. Ballast systems fill with water to add weight to the hull, and the hull shape pushes water to one side to create that wave. A wake boat uses similar ballast technology but is optimized for a taller, steeper wake suited to wakeboard tricks. A ski boat goes in the opposite direction, prioritizing a flat, clean wake with minimal ballast so the skier’s line stays uninterrupted.
